My Story
I learned to play piano starting when I was eight years old. I learned properly with music from the very start. I wasn’t old enough to be frightened of the lines and dots on the pages. I just followed them, and in no time at all, they were easier than reading words.
I started teaching at 19 and quickly found success with exam students. I still have a newspaper cutting from my first three student who passed their exams.
What Will Be Your Story?
Let’s make it include Piano Playing!
I have taught the piano for a very long time and coached hundreds of students through their exams, so I know what works and what doesn’t.
When taught properly, with nothing left out, students cannot go wrong. There is little to gain from being able to play many songs in a key, and when someone asks for it in a different key, not being able to do it because it wasn’t taught to them.
I appreciate that many teachers offer simplified methods to speed up the learning process, but they miss essential elements a student needs to become a confident pianist.
My students have fun learning piano, and so do I when teaching live or creating courses for this site. In fact, my site lessons are as identical to live lessons as I can make them.
I don’t believe students should be left to their own devices when taking online lessons. All of my site courses are fully supported by me. If you run into any problems or have anything that isn’t understood, I am here to help.
I do teach in other ways for live online lessons because, although I believe in the traditional way, many students are not interested in being able to play anything. Often playing by just chords, lead sheets, or no music at all, using ear training methods.
For these students, I offer a range of lessons suitable for their needs. In addition to music theory classes, students need to expand their musical knowledge.
